Citrus County Florida is an aquatic wonderland, located on what is called the "Nature Coast", Citrus County is also referred to as the Seven Rivers area. There are no less than seven rivers that either cross through or border Citrus County.

Some of the more notable rivers are the Crystal River and the Homosassa River both are spring fed. With water temperatures maintained at a mild 72 degrees by the warm springs year round, the area is known world-wide for its Florida manatee population.

People come from all over to get a glimpse at these gentle giants, once mistaken as mermaids. The endangered manatees of Citrus County are protected and much of the surrounding area is designated as a wildlife preserve.

This factor has helped to keep the waterfront areas of Citrus County from being over developed and thus waterfront property in Crystal River and Homosassa has become a great investment. The Crystal River runs into King's Bay dotted with magnificent seaside homes and then in turn runs into the Gulf of Mexico.

Other waterways include the Rainbow River and Withlacoochee River with countless riverfront and canal front communities throughout. Boating and fishing are not just hobbies in Citrus County, they are a way of life for many from the avid freshwater anglers on Lake Rousseau and Lake Tsala Apopka to the commercial fisherman that still bring in a great catch at the end of the day including stone crab, shrimp, oysters and scallops.
The east side of Citrus County is lake country. The Tsala Apopka lake chain covers hundreds of acres of the county and makes for great pleasure boating and lake side living.

There is also Lake Henderson with its variety of fish species. Citrus County also has an ample amount of free boat ramp access and fishing piers from Liberty Park to the newly constructed pier next to the Historic Courthouse in Inverness.

Pete's Pier on Kings Bay in Crystal River offers ample wet and dry docking for boats of all sizes. Jet skis and personal watercraft are also popular here as well as airboating in the more remote wetlands. There are dive and snorkel shops all around Kings Bay offering boat rentals, tours and even a chance to swim with the manatees.

If you love the water and are looking for Florida waterfront property away from the over developed metropolis and suburbs, let Pat Davis of Century 21 JW Morton Real Estate show you the ins and outs of waterfront homes and investments in Citrus County Florida.
